What to Expect

Before your treatment

Please do not come to acupuncture treatments on an empty stomach or after you had a heavy meal.

As most commonly used acupuncture points are located on your arms and legs, it is helpful to wear comfortable clothes that allow access to these areas.

Increase your fluid intake after a treatment to enhance the effect of the treatment and do not drink alcohol that day

First consultation

At your first consultation, I will take a detailed case history including your main complaints, dietary habits, sleeping patterns and go thoroughly through your medical history. You might feel that some questions appear unrelated to your condition but they help me to get a good outline of your current lifestyle and health status. I finally will examine your tongue, feel your pulses on both wrists and where necessary will palpate for areas of muscular tension.

Treatment plan

The information I have gained during your first consultation forms the basis of my diagnosis, which I will discuss with you in detail. Once we have agreed on a treatment plan, I will use fine single-use, pre-sterilised needles to stimulate specific acupuncture points on your body to help unblock obstructions of blood and energy flows in your body and to restore health. This process usually takes about 1.5 hours. Follow-up appointments last approximately 45-60 minutes. The number of treatments needed varies with each individual and is dependent on which condition is being treated.

General benefits of therapies

The most immediate observed benefits are a deep relaxation, enhanced immune system and energy levels, and a general feeling of well-being. Acute problems can be treated in one session if the treatment is given as soon as the problem is detected. Musculoskeletal conditions, if treated near the onset, can respond very quickly in 3-6 sessions. A chronic condition will take a minimum of 10 sessions.
