Back Pain and Sciatica

Back Pain

Nearly 8 out of every 10 people in the UK will suffer from back pain at some point in their lives. Back pain is one of the top reasons why people seek medical treatment and studies have shown that acupuncture can not only treat chronic back pain successfully, but it can also be a viable alternative in case of a severe disc trauma when physical manipulation through chiropractic is too painful.

Sciatica

Sciatica commonly affects people between the ages of 30-50 years. Sciatica is characterised by pain radiating into the leg. It is usually caused by nerve root compression and irritation or inflammation of the sciatic nerve and is often accompanied by lower back pain and neurological deficits in the lower limb. The pain is associated with tingling, numbness and weakness of the leg; it may be sudden in onset and then persist for days or weeks.

By carefully examining the location and nature of back pain or sciatica, and by finding out what factors aggravate or relieve the pain, I will closely work together with experts in other medical fields where necessary to develop the best possible treatment plan for my patients to relieve their pain, reduce inflammation and promote the body’s own healing abilities.
